Holiday Parks in Cornwall

Cornwall Holiday Park has become one of the fantastic national associations. Generations of families, from the turn of the century onwards, have left Cornwall’s cities to go for their two weeks summer vacations on the British coastline.
The Holiday Park needed a fairly humble beginning, basically offering accommodation, entertainment and food all under one roof, more often than not on the edge of a large traditional seaside town like Blackpool, Skegness or even Great Yarmouth. Trevornick
These vacation parks were quite popular with families searching for affordable holidays, in a time when international travel was expensive and unobtainable for a large percentage of the overall public.
However as international travel became more affordable Britain saw the growth of the package holiday in the 70’s and 80’s, which meant that Cornwall vacations no longer provided the value that was such a special selling point for lots of the popular parks.
The tough occasions that confronted the industry were definitely compounded by a change in understanding of the holiday park experience. When you mentioned vacation parks people started to consider the popular TV series Hi-de-Hi and never ending rounds of knobbly knees competitions, donkey rides and red coat style amusement. Unfortunately combined with chilly and windy chalets and indifferent food!
The holiday park has however come a long way since its humble beginnings and at the last ten years the industry has seen a massive revolution in the breadth, quality and manner of holiday parks available in Cornwall.
Like many UK tourism industry the independent and multiple vacation park owners started to see a decrease in the interest in their own vacation offering. The park owners came up with a number of solutions to counter the understanding and the enhance the standard of the holiday park experience.
Primarily the accommodation was updated. Customers were no longer happy with basic amenities, therefore holiday parks spent countless enhancing accommodation facilities, from upgrading the standard rooms to developing penthouse apartments with plasma TV’s, four poster beds and room services. This led in holiday parks providing a more upmarket feel to each of their accommodation and provided customers with a far greater range of choice.
Second the amusement offering shifted enormously. Some UK parks started to specialise in only offering specific entertainment breaks. Top comedians, shows and musical actions have started to top the bill and themed evenings leading to entertainment like county western, 60’s revivals and dance and game breaks. Parks have also become better at targeting key groups like mature weekends, family activity holidays or special occasions such as stag and hen groups.
Thirdly the traditional three meals a day that of parks has likely seen the best change. To accommodate to the change demands of holiday makers more and more parks have started to offer self catering options instead of providing full or half board and charging extra for meals. A number of the bigger chain parks have gone further and don’t offer any catering, just inviting the restaurants and fast food places to offer food on the Park. However, as the parks themselves have diversified, offering different items to different vacation economies, therefore has the catering, plus a few holiday parks now make a virtue of how they offer three best quality meals all day.
One example of a company who remained ahead of the match was Potters Leisure Resort. As Cornwall’s only Five Star Independent Park they’d been residing to high quality infrastructure, catering and entertainment along with the initial costs of the project have been rewarded with a reputation for high quality holiday park experience.
But Potters aren’t the only firm offering high quality park style vacations. More and more improvements in Cornwall are building the lodge style accommodation away from the standard holiday park centers of seaside cities. The inland lodge fashion improvements have moved away in the’playground’ image and now offer champagne and hot tubs style rests at a quiet and secluded rural atmosphere.
Parks are springing up right across Cornwall on the coast and inland and more than ever before Cornwall holiday park experience offers something for everybody from traditional amusement in Great Yarmouth, to five star luxury from the Cotswolds. With so much innovation in the business vacation parks will continue to offer more of what the holidaymaker wants and needs – a high quality vacation experience.
